Ear Wax Removal

Ear wax removal is available via micro-suction, curette or irrigation. The technique chosen will depend on preference, presentation and any contra-indications to particular methods.

Diagnostic hearing assessment

A diagnostic hearing assessment is a lot more involved than a hearing screening and involves a full case history as well as air and bone conduction, speech audiometry, tympanometry and acoustic reflexes. We provide full diagnostic hearing tests and reports and will provide honest, ethical, hearing rehabilitation options based on these results as well as the patient history, listening requirements, budget and lifestyle. The recommendations may or may not involve hearing aids and we will not pressure our patients into buying expensive hearing aids.

Ear plugs

There are a number of ear plugs available depending on the desired purpose. Ear plugs can be used to block harmful loud sounds and protect your hearing or to block annoying sounds such as snoring. Ear plugs for musicians are specifically designed to preserve the original sound and provide a high-fidelity experience whilst bringing it down to a safe level and preserving the user’s hearing. Ear plugs can also be used to stop water entering the ears and prevent infections. We are able to take impressions for custom ear plugs or have a number of ready-to-fit, over-the-counter options available.

Hearing Service Program

Sunshine Coast Audiology is accredited under the government’s Hearing Services Program to deliver free hearing services to eligible veterans and pensioners. These patients are also eligible for subsidies off higher levels of hearing aid technology if desired.

Hearing screening

A hearing screen is not a diagnostic hearing test but will provide an indication of whether air conduction hearing thresholds are within normal limits and whether the middle ear is functioning normally. Visual examination of the ear canal is also performed (otoscopy) to look for any abnormalities such as excess wax. Pre-employment and workplace hearing screening is also available.

Hearing aids

There are multiple hearing aid brands, styles and technology levels available and as an independent audiology clinic we are able to supply hearing aids from all manufacturers. We will be able to find a solution based on your needs and budget from a wide range of devices including devices that are Blue-tooth enabled, rechargeable, have more sophisticated noise reduction to reduce background noise and improve signal to noise ratio and devices with higher levels of wind protection if needed. Alternatively simple no-frills yet high-quality devices are available, if this is preferred. A range of accessories such as remote microphones and TV connectors are also available.
We are also able to adjust, repair and service hearing aids that you may have purchased elsewhere.

Tinnitus management

Tinnitus or ringing in the ears is very common yet each individual’s experience is unique. A leading cause is hearing loss or damage to the auditory system but there may be a number of other causes. The first step in tinnitus investigation and management is a diagnostic hearing test. Following this, we will be able to formulate an individual treatment plan to minimise tinnitus disturbance.
